About Stillwater

Stillwater is pre-market research for self-directed investors who protect the stocks they own with options collars.

What it is

Every trading morning, before the market opens, Stillwater shortlists a few stocks worth a closer look and prices an options collar for each one from the live option chain: the put to buy, the call to sell, the net cost, the floor and the cap. Members also get an open-collar tracker that flags expiring puts, an earnings view with earnings collars, and the option to upload their own brokerage history to see how their collars have done.

Who it is for

Stillwater is for people who pick their own stocks, trade in their own brokerage account with options approval, and would rather know their worst case before they buy. Collars are built in 100-share lots, so it suits accounts where a position of a few thousand dollars or more is normal. It is not for someone looking for a manager to invest on their behalf.

How it works

  • Before the open, the same screen runs across US-listed stocks every trading morning, without mood or exception.
  • The shortlist lands with its research in view: analyst support, the pre-market move and the next earnings date.
  • Each name comes with a priced collar worked out from the option chain, so the math is done before you decide.
  • You decide. Place the trade in your own brokerage account, or pass. Stillwater never holds funds or places orders.

Who builds it

Stillwater is built by Vertical Labs together with an experienced options investor who has traded collars in their own accounts for years. The track record on this website comes from those accounts, reconstructed from full transaction history.

What Stillwater is not

Stillwater is a research and education tool. It is not a broker-dealer or investment adviser, and nothing it shows is a recommendation to buy or sell. Read our disclosures and terms of service.
